You Probably Don’t Get Enough of this Crucial Mineral

Magnesium is one of the most abundant elements in the universe. In mineral form, magnesium is crucial for our health and well-being.

Yet, nutritionists have long suspected – and scientists have proven – that most of us don’t get enough of this vital element.

Modern American diets rarely contain enough magnesium to meet recommended daily requirements, and this is difficult to fix with diet alone; the magnesium contents of our crops has decreased by almost a fifth since 1968. Researchers believe that this is due to decreased levels in the soil after years of high rainfall and unbalanced fertilization.

Magnesium: The Magic Mineral

Magnesium performs a myriad of important functions in the human body. As a cofactor in over 600 enzyme reactions, its implicated in your energy creation, protein building, and even the electrochemical signals inside your brain.

A Vital Energy Provider

Your cells’ main energy resource is a molecule called ATP (adenosine triphosphate). Once energy is formed in the mitochondria, it is stored in ATP. However, the ATP needs to be activated before its energy can be used.

When magnesium ions bind to ATP they ignite its activation, enabling the cell to use the energy stored within it to power its regular activity. Each one of your cells stores and uses energy this way – therefore, magnesium plays a necessary role in your body’s overall functioning.

Helping The Building Blocks of DNA and Protein

Magnesium also acts as a cofactor for mechanisms involving purine and pyrimidine nucleotides. This gives it an important role in many cellular protein functions, including DNA replication, RNA transcription and translation, and protein synthesis.

As part of the structure of many nucleic acids, magnesium also interacts with proteins and other ligands within the body, again helping to regulate a wide range of functions and mechanisms.

Enabling Nerve Communication and Protection

Magnesium is particularly strongly implicated in cell signalling and communication. Both the membrane potential and second messenger systems involved in sending and receiving cell signals rely heavily on the role of magnesium.

As a result, magnesium has a critical influence on the balance of your nervous system.

As an example of just one of its functions within the nervous system: magnesium supports the balance of the excitatory glutamate system.

It achieves this by blocking NMDA receptors to prevent them from overfiring. This is an important job, as excessive activation can lead to overexcitation, imbalance, and, eventually, nerve cell death.

Glutamate is a major neurotransmitter found throughout the central nervous system. It communicates with many other neurotransmitter systems – therefore, anything which impacts the glutamate system has widespread indirect effects.

By regulating the firing of nerve cells, magnesium is thought to protect all kinds of neurons from neurotoxicity and apoptosis – earning itself a reputation as “a mineral of intense interest” amongst neurological scientists.

Stimulating Relaxation

Through similar mechanisms at neuromuscular junctions, magnesium has been found to balance muscle stimulation and stimulate physical relaxation. This has been found to promote relief from muscle tension and associated problems, such as cramps and headaches.

The relaxing effects of magnesium may also lead to better sleep. A meta-analysis involving over 7,500 participants found that observational studies supported an association between adequate magnesium intake and sleep quality.

Protecting Immune Health

Magnesium also supports the immune response by regulating the priming of phagocytes and non-specific immune responses. As a result, sufficient magnesium intake has been associated with reduced risk of chronic inflammation.

Antioxidant activity is also strongly related to the function of magnesium. One of these mechanisms is glutathione: glutathione is one of the body’s most important antioxidants, and studies have shown that magnesium intake may directly increase glutathione levels. This helps the body to build resilience against oxidative stress and supports healthy cells.

Magnesium has also been linked to functions in the microbiota-gut-brain axis, which connects the gastrointestinal tract with the central nervous system. This link provides a bidirectional communication pathway which has been found to regulate glial cells, protecting and supporting your neurons.

Magnesium and You: Discover a New Way of Life

Protecting your neurons keeps your nervous system healthy, optimizing its communication with the rest of your body and the outside world.

With healthy neurons, your brain is able to operate at its best – as we might expect, preliminary research finds magnesium supplementation may lead to improved learning and memory.

Animal studies have found that rats treated with magnesium had higher brain density in areas associated with improved memory, as well as improved synaptic plasticity.

In rats of all ages, this magnesium treatment was found to enhance spatial and associative memory. While studying the brain is more complicated in humans, these animal studies give us clues into the possible mechanisms behind what we see.

Indeed, we have seen these effects in humans: scientists found that American adults aged 60 and older experienced greater cognitive abilities all-around when they had higher magnesium intake.

These findings mirror other studies around the world which have found a direct link between magnesium intake and cognitive abilities.

Supporting Balanced Emotions

A healthy brain is a healthy mind. Studies have shown that magnesium may support emotional balance – in just 2 weeks, study participants taking magnesium experienced a reduction in symptoms of depression and anxiety which was maintained for the 6 week study duration.

There is mounting evidence linking a magnesium-deficient diet to signs of depression, including decreased social interaction and anhedonia.

By balancing your neural firing and supporting your nervous system, magnesium may help to regulate neurotransmitters and hormones associated with anxiety and low mood.

Rebalance Your Magnesium

Magnesium supports your body in countless ways, right down to your DNA. Without enough of it in your diet, you may begin to feel tired, unfocused, and tense.

Thankfully, there is plenty of magnesium to go around – even if it’s no longer easily obtainable through our regular diets.

Become part of the movement for more balanced health: explore our range of Awakened.energy magnesium supplements.

The Amino Acid That Can Get You a Good Night’s Sleep

As well as better cognition, a balanced immune system, and healthy nerve cells…

Twenty-two amino acids – compounds containing both amino and carboxylic acid groups – are fundamental to human life.

We often think of these as the “building blocks” of proteins, as different combinations of amino acid chains create different proteins in the ribosomes of each of your cells. Most of these amino acids are naturally created within your body, while others can only be obtained through food.

Glycine is one of the amino acids that are naturally produced by your body. It can also be obtained through foods that are high in protein (and, by the way, many more vegetables are high in protein than is commonly thought, so eat your veggies). Glycine is commonly combined with magnesium, forming magnesium glycinate, because they share many complimentary benefits.

Glycine Promotes Nerve Health and Leads to Mental Calm

Glycine acts as a neurotransmitter in the central nervous system, where it activates NMDA receptors.

The activation of NMDA receptors helps to keep your excitatory neurons’ firing rates under control. This prevents them from overuse, protecting nerve health and keeping your nervous system in good balance.

As well as relaxing your brain cells, this mechanism also helps to send calming signals to your muscles. As a result, glycine supplementation can induce a feeling of relaxation in both your mind and your body.

Activating these NMDA receptors also helps your body to relax by promoting peripheral vasodilation. Peripheral vasodilation leads to decreased blood pressure and heart rate, relaxation, and a lowering of the body temperature.

How Glycine Leads to Better Sleep

All of these things signal to your body that you’re ready for sleep.

Indeed, glycine has been linked to better quality of sleep in both animal and human studies.

In one study of glycine’s effect on sleep, scientists used polysomnography – measurements of brain waves, heart rate, blood oxygen levels, and breathing – to observe sleep quality. They found that sleep quality was objectively better in the glycine group compared with a placebo group. Interestingly, the glycine group also reported subjective measures of better sleep, and had improved performance on cognitive tasks.

Glycine’s Immune-Boosting Properties

Glycine also decreases pro-inflammatory cytokines – the bodily proteins that help control your immune response – and lowers the risk of chronic inflammation. It’s thought that it achieves this by inhibiting the activation of a protein transcription factor heavily involved in the inflammatory response, nuclear factor kappa-B.

In doing so, glycine can support a balanced immune system.

Glycine further supports the immune system by bolstering the effects of antioxidants. Glycine is a key component of glutathione, one of your body’s most powerful antioxidants, which protects cells from oxidative stress and promotes healthy cell functioning.

Enhancing Your Body’s Natural Functions

The amino acid glycine is crucial for our regular functioning, and the benefits of glycine supplementation have been shown to improve sleep and cognition, and bring balance to the immune system.

Dietary supplementation with glycine can support your body’s natural glycine production, bringing you closer to your mission. Discover the benefits of glycine supplementation with our unique magnesium glycinate-conttaining formula, MitoMag.

How to Hack Your Cell’s Secret Energy Source

The low-carb, high-fat “ketogenic” diet has gained online popularity in the last few years, with Google searches for “keto” peaking in 2019 and resurfacing again every January. You may have already heard of phrases like “ketosis” and “ketones” – but, far from a diet fad buzzword, ketone bodies play an essential role in your cellular health and complete wellbeing.

By replacing carbohydrates with fats, the body is forced to use fat for energy instead of glucose. This is known as the state of ketosis. It gets its name from ketone bodies, the molecules produced by your cells to provide energy in this state.

So, what are ketone bodies, and how are they used to power your cells?

How Your Mitochondria Power Your Cells

Usually, the organelles called mitochondria, which operate inside each of your cells, use glucose to convert and store energy for cellular respiration. When glucose is broken down, the energy released is stored in a molecular bond as adenosine triphosphate (ATP). ATP then bonds with magnesium to become biologically active.

When other parts of the cell need energy, the molecular bond inside the magnesium-ATP complex is reversed and the energy is released once again.

However, glucose isn’t always readily available – and when it isn’t, your cells need a plan B.

Power Up Your Body & Mind

Improve Mood & Focus with MitoMAG

All-Natural, USA Made, Vegan Capsules

Blissful MitoMAG Magnesium Complex, 60 capsules, designed to enhance relaxation and support overall health.

A Lesser-Known Alternative

Ketone bodies are produced by the liver by breaking down fatty acids. They are then transported to your cells, where they can be used up when there isn’t enough glucose available to convert and store energy the usual way. This can happen during times of high energy demand such as rigorous exercise, fasting, or low carb intake.

The mitochondria can use ketone bodies to make ATP, the same molecule yielded by glucose.

The three ketone bodies made in your liver are acetone, acetoacetate, and beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB). BHB can also be found in high protein foods like eggs and dairy milk, and is a popular dietary supplement for those looking to encourage ketosis.

The addition of BHB to your diet gives your cells more of the support they need to ‘make’ energy, which benefits their overall functioning and vitality.

MitoMag: The Groundbreaking Magnesium Supplement that Delivers More

The Groundbreaking Magnesium Supplement that Delivers More

We all want to be the healthiest version of ourselves – whether that means physical strength, mental sharpness, inner peace, or something else, we can all agree that we want to feel our best.

There are several lifestyle changes we can make to achieve this. We may become more active, expand our social circles, or change our diets to include more balanced meals and better nutrition.

However, many Americans are facing a challenge that cannot easily be overcome through diet alone: low magnesium intake. Decades of studies have found that people all over the world are not able to meet their Recommended Daily Allowance for magnesium, with some studies estimating approximately half of Americans fall into this category.

This is, in part, due to agricultural changes – soil properties and unbalanced fertilization practices have contributed to lower magnesium content in our harvested foods. The impact of this can be followed through the food chain, leading to lower magnesium content in meat and dairy products.

The refining process of foods like rice, flour, and sugar also contributes to low dietary magnesium, in some cases removing as much as 99% of its natural magnesium.

In many cases, suboptimal nutrition can be addressed through dietary changes. However, when it comes to magnesium, many Americans rightfully trust dietary supplementation.

Why Is Magnesium So Important?

Magnesium is an extremely important micronutrient. The reported benefits of magnesium supplementation include better sleep, improved cognitive performance, an overall feeling of calm, and improved concentration.

These effects are largely due to its work in the nervous system, where it regulates cell transmission and prevents neurons from overfiring. However, magnesium plays a central role in every cell’s ability to do its job.

How the Mitochondria Provide Energy

Mitochondria are called “the powerhouses of the cell” because they are the primary sites of energy production. The electrical potential across their inner membrane is astonishingly intense — comparable to a lightning bolt, with a field strength of around 30 million volts per meter. This vivid comparison, highlighted by biochemist Nick Lane, emphasizes the remarkable energy dynamics within these essential organelles.

The Science of Cellular Respiration

Mitochondria produce energy through a process called oxidative phosphorylation, which occurs in the inner mitochondrial membrane. Here, glucose, fatty acids, ketones (mainly beta-hydroxybutyrate, or BHB), and even some amino acids are broken down into simpler molecules. Glucose and fatty acids are converted into a molecule called acetyl-CoA, with fatty acids undergoing beta-oxidation, and ketones such as BHB playing a much more important role than previously recognized.

These molecules enter the Krebs cycle (citric acid cycle), generating electron carriers (NADH and FADH2) that transfer electrons through the electron transport chain, creating a flow of protons across the membrane.

Antioxidant Effects of BHB

Critical to optimal health, performance, and longevity is the fact that Complex I (the first step in the electron transport chain) is a major site for free radical production. BHB can supercharge the efficiency of the electron transport chain, reducing free radicals and boosting the production of a molecule called ATP (adenosine triphosphate).

The Role of ATP

This proton gradient, with an electric field strength that can reach 30 million volts per meter, drives the enzyme ATP synthase to produce ATP, the cell’s main energy currency. Oxygen is essential in this process, acting as the final electron acceptor to form water, thereby sustaining the continuous production of ATP.

ATP consists of a nitrogenous base, a sugar molecule, and three phosphate groups. The energy is stored in the bond attaching the final phosphate group. When this energy is used, the final phosphate group is removed, and the molecule becomes adenosine diphosphate (ADP).

Activating Your Energy

Each ATP molecule requires a magnesium ion to be biologically active, meaning ATP cannot complete its function without magnesium. Magnesium stabilizes the ATP structure by balancing the negatively charged phosphate groups with its positive charge. Its primary role, however, is to help ATP bind to enzyme substrates that require its energy, supporting the transition from ATP to ADP and the accompanying energy release.

Magnesium effectively activates ATP, making it essential for the release of energy in all cellular functions. This is why magnesium is a vital element for our health and a popular dietary supplement. However, not all magnesium supplements offer the same benefits.

Where Other Supplements Fall Short

Existing magnesium capsules provide elemental magnesium, which is required to activate ATP. But without the ATP to activate, magnesium supplements only do half the job.

None of the existing magnesium capsules are able to maximize ATP production. Therefore, the full benefits of magnesium are not obtained when supplementing with existing magnesium capsules.

For magnesium to perform its vital work to activate ATP, the ATP must already be formed. The formation of ATP can therefore become a limiting factor in many of the benefits offered by magnesium.

The Unique Magic of MitoMag

In order for magnesium supplements to work effectively, they require additional co-ingredients that support the formation of ATP in the mitochondria.

This is where BHB comes in.

BHB, also known as beta-hydroxybutyrate, is a ketone body used to provide energy to cells when there is not enough glucose available. It’s found in eggs and dairy products, and it’s produced naturally by your body while in a state of ketosis or during prolonged exercise.

As the co-ingredient to magnesium, BHB functions to support the development of ATP in the mitochondria and give magnesium the foundation it needs to perform at its best.

We believe in removing limitations, performing at our best, and providing complete support – that’s why MitoMag contains a unique, all-natural formula based around magnesium BHB and complemented with magnesium glycinate.

The Up-and-Coming Supplement Catching Eye Experts’ Attention

High intraocular pressure can impact your life in many ways, from changing the activities you do, to the food you eat, even to the positions you rest in.

One upcoming yet well-researched supplement, which has the potential to protect against high intraocular pressure, is catching the attention of eye health experts.

Bring Full Balance to Your System with This One Supplement

Palmitoylethanolamide, also known as PEA, is pioneering supplement research in the USA. Already widely researched across Europe, PEA is known for its ability to bring balance to the body and mind. Early studies in Belgium, Denmark, and Italy in the late 1990s and early 2000s began to discover its incredible effects, setting the stage for its emergence in the supplement world today.

PEA is a naturally occurring fatty acid amide, created by your own body and found in common foods like soybeans, egg yolk, and peanuts. Dietary supplementation with PEA has been widely researched, with mounting evidence to suggest it has benefits for physical, mental, and emotional health.

PEA works through two primary mechanisms; one, by activating a cellular protein called PPAR-alpha, and two, by supporting the calming effect of neurotransmitter anandamide in the brain.

PPAR-alpha can be found in cells all over the body, explaining how PEA has such a wide range of positive effects. The reported benefits of PEA include a balanced immune system, stronger heart health, and even neuroprotection.

How PEA Protects Eye Pressure…

One of the potential benefits of PEA is a reduction of intraocular pressure.

Intraocular pressure is the amount of pressure inside your eyes, affected by the rates of production and drainage of eye fluid. Your eyes need the right pressure levels to work correctly. However, if they produce too much fluid and/or struggle to drain it, intraocular pressure builds and can lead to further complications.

High intraocular pressure is the most common risk factor for glaucoma, which can later lead to blindness.

…And How Scientists Have Proved It

In a study published earlier this year, researchers gathered the existing scientific data on the effect of PEA on intraocular pressure. Six clinical trials were included, yielding data from 199 total participants.

They analyzed the data and found that it showed a significant reduction in intraocular pressure when participants took PEA supplementation.

The researchers were able to use three of these trials for an in-depth statistical analysis. This analysis compared the eye pressures of participants with glaucoma who took PEA, with the eye pressures of participants with glaucoma who took either a placebo or nothing at all.

What they found was exciting: their results showed that participants who took PEA had a greater reduction in intraocular pressure than those who didn’t.

They were therefore able to conclude that PEA was the likely reason for their reduced eye pressure.

Benefits Beyond the Figures

Does this make a noticeable difference to the participants’ wellbeing? Other studies suggest that it does:

Another research team found that dietary supplementation with PEA:

  • Improved intraocular pressure in patients with glaucoma.
  • Had no recorded side effects.
  • Was associated with a marked improvement in the visual field.

The discovery that the benefits of PEA can translate to tangibly better visual ability brings excitement and credibility to this field of research.

A Safe Alternative

The very low incidence of reported side effects is also an important consideration.

In light of this, scientists have suggested that PEA is a safe alternative to other potential treatments for high intraocular pressure and glaucoma.

Laser iridotomy is the standard treatment for glaucoma, although the procedure itself comes with the potential complication for acutely increased intraocular pressure.

Researchers investigated whether taking PEA before laser iridotomy could affect the risk of acutely raised eye pressure.

Both groups – those who took PEA and those who took a placebo – had similar, normal eye pressure when the study began. They underwent laser iridotomy to reduce risk of glaucoma due to family history and other risk factors.

Following the iridotomy, the placebo group did experience the expected complication. Their average intraocular pressure increased and rose above a normal, healthy level within 2 hours of the procedure.

However, the PEA group stayed the same, maintaining a healthy eye pressure for the entire 2 hours.

Interestingly, PEA did not appear to affect their already-normal eye pressure prior to the treatment.

PEA did not simply reduce the pressure, but it maintained its balance.

The researchers in this study believed that PEA may have controlled the immune response to the procedure. In this way, PEA protected against increased pressure but did not appear to put the participants at risk of low intraocular pressure.

Discover the Powerful Effects of PEA

The potential benefits of PEA for intraocular pressure are incredible. As scientists continue to research this phenomenon, dietary supplementation with PEA is growing in popularity in the United States and around the world.

Try PEA supplementation with Awakened.energy PEAmium – the purest, most potent form of PEA on the market, created using natural methods and tested in pharmaceutical-grade laboratories.

CBG: The Emerging Cannabinoid with Unique Potential Healing Properties

a bottle of cannabinoid liquid, with a droplet visible, highlighting its connection to wellness

Interest in CBD, or cannabidiol, has grown exponentially in recent years, as scientists and medical experts have embraced its healing potential. Interest in other cannabinoid supplements is also on the rise – particularly regarding the “mother of all cannabinoids”, cannabigerol, also known as CBG.

What are Cannabinoids?

Arguably the most well-known cannabinoid is THC, famous for its psychoactive effect when Cannabis is consumed. However, most cannabinoids, like CBD and CBG, do not produce a “high”.

Cannabinoids are a biological compound that bind to the body’s cannabinoid receptors, abundant in the brain and immune system and located all over the body. They are found in high concentrations in hemp and Cannabis plants, but are also known to be present in other plants and herbs including kava, black truffles, and even basil and oregano.

Instead, many cannabinoids have a gentle grounding and calming effect by enhancing the action in the brain’s natural endocannabinoid system.

Humans and Cannabinoids: A Natural Pair

Before the discovery of cannabinoid receptors in the 1980s, it was thought that cannabinoids produced their effect by disrupting the nervous system and other non-specific cells.

We now know that this could not be further from the case – not only does the human body receive input from cannabinoids via its own specialised cannabinoid receptors, but these are more prominent in the brain than any other G-protein coupled receptor.

There are two main types of cannabinoid receptor. The first, CB1, is found in abundance in the brain. It is most common in brain areas associated with movement, emotion, memory, and reward. It can also be found in the eye and in male and female reproductive systems.

The second type of cannabinoid receptor, CB2, is expressed in the immune system, the gastrointestinal system, the brain, and the peripheral nervous system.

Both of these receptors form a significant portion of the endocannabinoid system. This is the natural system by which the body produces and uses its own cannabinoids – known in this case as endocannabinoids – to regulate a vast range of bodily functions.

One of these endocannabinoids is called anandamide – also known as the “bliss molecule”. Anandamide stokes feelings of relief, comfort, and calm; it can help to balance mood, and has even been shown in animal studies to skew interpretations of neutral stimuli more positively.

The endocannabinoid system plays a significant role in cognitive, mental, and emotional health, and emerging research points to its role in supporting and regulating the immune system.

CBG: A Natural Choice

Add CBG to Your Wellness Journey

Start Your CBG Experience

a bottle of cannabinoid liquid, with a droplet visible, highlighting its connection to wellness
Cannabinoid

The Function of CBG

Cannabinoid supplements like CBG can therefore support this natural endocannabinoid system.

Scientists have been able to prove that CBG binds to both CB1 and CB2, and some studies have suggested it has a particularly strong affinity for CB2 receptors.

At the endocannabinoid receptors, CBG inhibits the breakdown of anandamide. This strengthens anandamide’s action within cells, thereby improving its natural ability to balance and restore feelings of peace and contentment.

The Unique Mechanisms of CBG

CBG is thought to be unique as a cannabinoid that binds not only to CB1 and CB2, but also to the adrenergic receptor α2 and serotonin receptor 5-HT1a.

As an agonist at the α2 receptor, CBG effectively reduces the release of norepinephrine. Decreased levels of norepinephrine results in relaxation, decreased blood pressure, and improved concentration.

At the serotonergic 5-HT1a receptor, CBG acts as an antagonist. This prompts the cells to release additional serotonin, which can have mood-stabilising effects and support learning and memory.

a bottle of cannabinoid liquid, with a droplet visible, highlighting its connection to wellness
Cannabinoid

CBG’s Healing Influence on the Mind and Body

The potential benefits of CBG range from potentially boosting cognitive, mental, and emotional health, to widespread physiological benefits and specific positive effects on various systems.

Balancing Mood and Enhancing Cognition

Small studies have found that people use CBG to balance mood, induce feelings of relief, and stimulate appetite. A double-blind study published this year found that CBG enhanced relaxation, improved the ability to cope with stress, and even supported verbal memory compared with a placebo.

It’s thought that this is thanks to CBG’s influence on anandamide, particularly on the CB1 receptors within the brain.

Relieving Intraocular Pressure

Numerous animal studies on CBG’s effect on the eye found that it was able to reduce eye pressure by encouraging the normal drainage of fluid, supporting normal intraocular pressure. Other cannabinoids tested induced negative side effects, but none were found with CBG.

Human eyes have the same endocannabinoid receptors, leading scientists to believe that CBG may have the same benefits in humans through the same mechanisms.

Supporting Healthy Bladder Function

High concentrations of endocannabinoid receptors have also been located in the bladder, suggesting the endocannabinoid system also plays a role in bladder function.

Animal studies confirmed that CBG can help to maintain a healthy bladder; researchers found that CBG was the most effective cannabinoid at reducing involuntary bladder contractions, supporting bladder control.

Anecdotal evidence suggests that this effect may extend to humans, but scientists continue to investigate this following promising animal studies.

Neuroprotection and Brain Health

Some studies support the idea that CBG has neuroprotective effects, mediated in part through the gene transcription factor PPAR-γ.

Particularly, animal and in-vitro studies have shown that CBG protected against oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction in neural cells. These studies were able to demonstrate that CBG strengthens brain cells and restores balance in the brain’s immune function.

A study in 2021 further found that CBG protected against ischemic injury in blood-brain barrier cells, which suggests that CBG may support good neurocardiac health.

The PPAR-γ transcription factor mediating CBG’s neuroprotective effects is also implicated in controlling abnormal cell growth, regulating metabolism, and supporting the immune system.

Promoting Normal Cell Development

The PPAR-γ transcription factor is also implicated in regulating metabolism and supporting normal cell growth.

CBG has been found to support this role of PPAR-γ, helping to encourage normal cell development and moderate the control of abnormal cells.

Studies have found that CBG also uses other mechanisms to slow proliferation and potentially enhance cell death in abnormal cell tissue, including direct effects on apoptosis pathways.

Regulating Immune Function

PPAR-γ is also used by the immune system in immune cell differentiation and development. Research has found that by enhancing its transcriptional activity, CBG may also support a healthy immune system.

CB2 receptors are also abundant in the immune system, where CBG binds and strengthens the action of natural endocannabinoids like anandamide. This produces a soothing and relieving effect.

The Future of CBG

As scientists continue to investigate the effects of CBG on the immune system, there is considerable excitement about the potential benefits of CBG for therapeutic use.

The many potential positive impacts of CBG cannot be overstated – though CBG research is young, it is extremely promising.

Public perceptions are shifting, and thanks to a growing acceptance of the natural benefits of cannabinoids, research for CBG continues to expand and yield exciting results.

Cannabinoids, particularly CBG, are at the forefront of innovation in supplement development. Discover the powerful benefits of CBG for yourself; try regular dietary supplementation and experience a new degree of wellness.

CBG: The Lesser-Known Cannabinoid That Can Restore Balance to Your Whole Being

CBG: A bottle of CBG oil is for wellness routine

Restore balance and alignment to your body and mind with this ancient cannabinoid – CBG has been used by humans for centuries, and it’s finally emerging on the supplement market.

Natural cannabinoid receptors are abundant in the human brain and body; we have evolved to enjoy their benefits over thousands of years.

Cannabinoids are not only found in the cannabis plant, but also in common herbs and spices like black pepper, cloves, and oregano. Our bodies even naturally create their own cannabinoids, known as endocannabinoids.

Cannabigerol (CBG) is a lesser-known cannabinoid and exciting new dietary supplement, with preliminary research showing promising evidence for its many potential health benefits.

The Mother of All Cannabinoids

CBG is sometimes referred to as “the mother of all cannabinoids” – it is the precursor to all cannabinoids, usually found in younger plants before it is turned into other substances like the more commonly known cannabidiol, or CBD.

Like CBD, CBG is not psychoactive. It does not alter your perceptions or make you feel “high”, but it does have a wide array of potential benefits for your overall health and wellbeing.

“Natural cannabinoid receptors are abundant in the human brain and body; we have evolved to enjoy their benefits over thousands of years. Cannabinoids are not only found in the cannabis plant, but also in common herbs and spices like black pepper, cloves, and oregano. Our bodies even naturally create their own cannabinoids, known as endocannabinoids.”

What Does CBG Do?

CBG, like other cannabinoids, mimics the body’s naturally produced endocannabinoid compounds. One of these is anandamide, also known as the “bliss molecule”. Anandamide helps to regulate mood, sleep, and hunger, and promotes states of comfort, focus, and motivation.

CBG is thought to strengthen the effects of anandamide, as well as other endocannabinoids.

CBG also acts on other receptors which are known to regulate normal cell cycles, balance mood, and stimulate alertness.

Discovering the Powerful Benefits of CBG

Scientists are only now beginning to study the effects of CBG, but existing studies are yielding exciting results.

The vast potential benefits of CBG include protecting the brain, regulating the immune system, and promoting normal cell growth.

CBG may also help to regulate mood and promote feelings of calm and comfort.

In preliminary animal studies, scientists have also begun to find evidence that CBG can support healthy bladder function by reducing involuntary contractions.

Scientists have also found that CBG helps to encourage normal fluid drainage from the eye in mice and rats, who share the same endocannabinoid receptors in the eye as humans. This supports normal intraocular pressure and suggests that CBG could be a powerful supplement for eye health. Other cannabinoids have been tested for eye health, but CBG has been found to be the only one that did not produce negative effects.

How is CBG Different to CBD?

CBG and CBD, though structurally similar, can enhance or cancel each other’s effects depending on the circumstances.

While they do overlap, CBG and CBD do not interact with all of the same brain receptors. For example, while both strengthen the effect of anandamide, CBG has additional effects on the systems responsible for regulating our norepinephrine and serotonin levels. Through these mechanisms, CBG can promote calm, relaxation, and balanced mood in ways that are unique compared with other cannabinoids including CBD.

This means that different combinations of CBD, CBG, or other cannabinoids may be more beneficial depending on your unique needs. For example, research suggests that CBG may be the optimal choice for balancing intraocular pressure, but that CBD may negate these positive effects – CBD may, in fact, increase intraocular pressure.

Inspiring Decades of Research: The Science of PEA

An illustration depicting how PEA supports and energizes your mission, emphasizing its vital role in achieving goals.

Palmitoylethanolamide, abbreviated to PEA (not to be confused with phenylethylamine, also abbreviated to PEA) is a fatty acid amide that is both synthesised in the body and obtainable through diet. Its natural yet powerful effect on the body helps to regulate metabolism, the inflammatory response, and neural pathways responsible for relaxation and restoration.

In recent decades, dietary supplementation with PEA has soared in popularity. PEA is a popular supplement in Italy, Spain, Germany, and The Netherlands, and is already making waves in the USA. Classed as a dietary supplement by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), PEA has not been approved as treatment for medical conditions, but its benefits for the body are widely supported by clinical studies. Its supportive and restorative effects on the body are now being discovered around the world, by researchers and health-aware trailblazers alike.

PEA can be found in high amounts in soy lecithin, soybeans, egg yolk, peanuts, and alfalfa. However, as a fatty acid, PEA that can be obtained from these foods is not water soluble. This makes it difficult for your body to process and enjoy the full benefits of the PEA, as its bioavailability is limited.

This hurdle has been overcome by first extracting, then micronizing PEA. Micronization is the process by which molecules of PEA are ground down until they are much smaller, enabling your body to absorb more PEA and make the most of its incredible capabilities. PEA in this form is also able to cross the blood-brain barrier, making its positive effects on the brain even more potent.

The Awakened.energy method of production and micronization is the only uniquely solvent-free PEA production in the USA. This method extracts pure PEA from natural sources and turns it into bioavailable, micronized PEA without the addition of any unwanted chemicals. Awakened.energy PEAmium is the only PEA supplement in the USA that can safely say there are no traces of solvents, fillers, binders, or artificial ingredients in their products.

Scientists first discovered PEA in the 1950s and have been fascinated with it ever since. Decades of research have resulted in a deep yet evolving understanding of the methods and mechanisms of PEA, with further studies and clinical trials still underway.

One of the key mechanisms that scientists have uncovered is that PEA activates a cellular protein – specifically, a transcription factor – called PPAR-alpha. PPAR-alpha can be found in cells throughout the body, and it plays a role in regulating metabolism and promoting healthy immune function. Activating PPAR-alpha with PEA supports it to fulfil its role, helping to maintain the regular function of multiple bodily systems.

PEA has an additional role in the endocannabinoid system: the PEA molecule has a similar structure to anandamide, commonly known as the “bliss molecule”. Anandamide acts on cannabinoid receptors to promote relaxation, restoration, and your body’s natural ability to recover. It has a half-life of less than 5 minutes, meaning its action on the brain is limited by its quick breakdown. As PEA is similar in shape, it is hydrolysed by the same enzyme as anandamide. This means that higher levels of PEA in the brain can use up this enzyme and slow the hydrolysis of anandamide, supporting it to produce its beneficial effects in the brain for longer.

While PEA itself is not an endocannabinoid, it is an endocannabinoid-like neuroactive lipid. Research is ongoing to fully understand its role in the endocannabinoid system.

PEA’s role in the endocannabinoid system and the PPAR-alpha transcription factor, which can be found in cells all over the body, enable it to have far-reaching benefits.

1. Recovery

One of PEA’s main benefits is its role in supporting the body’s natural ability to recover. In clinical trials, PEA has been found to promote recovery and feelings of relief in a wide range of contexts, from common ailments to more complex presentations.

2. Neural Health

PEA may have neuroprotective effects by supporting nerve cells through its role in balancing the inflammatory response and in the endocannabinoid system. It has also been suggested by researchers that PEA may increase the presence of neurotrophic factors in the brain, which help brain cells to regenerate.

3. Eye Health

The eyes are part of the central nervous system, meaning they, too, benefit from the neuroprotective effects of PEA. PEA’s beneficial effects on the inflammatory system may support good vision and healthy eye pressure.

4. Mood Balance

By acting on the endocannabinoid system, particularly by supporting anandamide, PEA can help to promote balanced mood and overall feelings of contentment and wellness. Ongoing clinical studies have supported the benefits of PEA for mood regulation and cognitive health.

5. Inflammatory Balance

PEA’s action on PPAR-alpha supports healthy function of the inflammatory system. This can have widespread benefits for the body, particularly where the inflammatory system may be dysregulated or unbalanced.

6. Immunity

By regulating the inflammatory system, PEA may also support the body’s natural recovery from viruses. Clinical studies have found that PEA may be able to calm symptoms of the common cold.

7. Heart Health

PEA supports a healthy cardiovascular system by supporting healthy blood flow through the regulation of the inflammatory system. Well-maintained cardiovascular tissue supports recovery and overall health.

8. Gut Balance

PEA’s action on the inflammatory system also supports regular function of the gut, which may promote feelings of relief and healthy digestion.

9. Histamine Balance

Some scientists think that PEA may be a histamine-release blocker, which can regulate the expression of histamines in the body. This can support healthy skin and feelings of relief and comfort.

Clinical studies continue to investigate and uncover the many functions and benefits of PEA.

Side effects, though rarely reported, tend to be mild. There is no standardised recommended dose of PEA, though large doses have the most powerful effects – the dosage used in studies can range from 600mg to 2,400mg per day.

Further research is needed to confirm whether PEA is safe for children and in pregnancy.

Decades of research have already revealed the fascinating mechanisms and benefits of PEA; discover why PEA continues to inspire clinical studies, and why it’s quickly becoming the supplement of choice for wellness champions around the world.

PEAmium – It’s Not Your Average PEA Supplement

PEA supplement, a nutritious plant-based option for health-conscious individuals

Awakened. energy PEAmium is the USA’s only solvent-free palmitoylethanolamide supplement. We are proud to offer a PEA supplement that is pure, potent, and proven.

PEA is a naturally occurring molecule, made in small amounts in your body and obtainable through foods like soybeans, egg yolk, and peanuts. PEA works by activating a cellular protein called PPAR-alpha, which is responsible for overall bodily system regulation, and by supporting brain molecules involved in relaxation and restoration. Through these two main mechanisms, PEAmium promotes feelings of wellness and purpose and supports you to achieve your mission.

PPAR-alpha plays a key role in energy homeostasis, glucose metabolism, and the inflammatory response. Activating this protein, found in cells all over your body, helps to protect immunity and supports the heart, the gut, the eyes, and even the skin.

This same system also supports cells in the brain, where PEA has another key function. By mimicking anandamide, commonly referred to as the “bliss molecule”, PEA promotes healthy functioning of the brain mechanisms responsible for recovery and restoration. This can help to maintain balanced mood, strong cognition, and an overall sense of wellbeing.
